Before the modern form of Boxing emerged as we know it today, boxing got a reputation as the most gruesome and deadly kind of sport. Back then, boxers would fight without gloves but with bare hands that resulted to many boxers getting killed in the fight. It was only in 1740’s that the growing number of casualties was somehow largely minimized when a boxer champion, after his opponent got killed in their fight, had developed a stricter rule of the sport. After he established the new rules of the sport, the said champion was called the “Father of Boxing”.

As the sport gained much popularity as it satisfied something in both fighters and the spectators, more rules and regulations were added to make the game safer for the pugilists. Then, basing on their long experience in the sports, more and more safety measures were invented that give birth of the kind of boxing apparel and equipment we have today.
